Samyang 14mm Wide Angle Lens

The New Wide Angle Lens of Samyang 14mm T3.1 Cine Lens for Canon EF-Mount is optimized for film and video applications. The focus and iris rings feature industry-standard gearing, which provides an interface for use with a follow focus. To aid focus pullers, aperture and focus scales are marked on the side of the lens. This 14mm lens produces a 115.7°, ultra-wide angle-of-view when used with a full-frame or 35mm camera. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, and the minimum focus distance is 11.02″ from the lens.

The new Mark II (Mk 2) versions feature revised placement of the focus and aperture gearing, so all newest lenses have the gearing in the same place for convenience on rigs and professional follow focus systems.

The Samyang 14mm VDSLR  (Video Digital SLR) version has been developed primarily for cine / filming and video purposes with Canon, Nikon, Sony E-Mount, and Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mount cameras or professional camcorders with corresponding mounts.

Like the Standard 14mm prime lens, it features the same superb optics with the addition of follow-focus gear rings and decoupled aperture. Such alterations allow the user to smoothly and quietly change focus and aperture / depth of field whist filming, and allows coupling to professional geared follow-focus systems. The aperture and focus scale have been relocated to the side of the lens, to aid videographers.

When using the Samyang 14mm on an APS-C DSLR – the field of view is still equivalent to approximately 22mm (35mm equivalent) which is still impressively wide, It produces an immense field of view – 114 degrees on full frame sensors, 93.9˚ (Nikon APS-C with 1.5x crop factor), or 89.9 ˚ with Canon EOS (1.6x crop factor

The Samyang 14mm features a geared focus and aperture rings which is smooth and well-damped, and couples with follow focus systems. This provides a positive manual focus, particularly suitable for movie makers or professional filming with DSLR’s where manual focus is preferred, enabling focusing pulling whilst video recording.

The optical construction is 14 elements in 12 optical groups with 3 high refractive index elements, 2x ED element, an aspherical hybrid element plus a aspherical glass element. The latest generation of anti-reflective layers: UMC – Ultra Multi Coated are incorporated to minimise flare and ghosting. The lens is supplied with a special front snap-on lens cap, rear lens cap, and soft lens case.
